CHARACTER
NAME: Casey Ramone
CANON: Original ("Dragon Dating Simulator")
CANON POINT: Shortly after beginning magic lessons with the other dragonaughts
AGE: 21
BACKGROUND: On this page.

PERSONALITY: To meet Casey for the first time is to meet a very laid-back, somewhat detached individual. They often have energy to spare but have learned to focus it into constructive habits like raising animals or maintaining the few tight-knit friendships that they have. Although not exactly the best with people, Casey does like social interaction and isn't afraid of initiating it; however, the lack of experience can lead to showing off how easily flustered they can get from being teased or surprised by something simple. They're very earnest about what they choose to do whether it was their own idea or not. Making Casey do something they actually do not want to do is like trying to get a cat to take a bath. Prepare for a world war on your hands.

Despite not having much in the way of street smarts or social graces, Casey is highly intelligent and picks things up quickly. A survivor and an adapter, they roll with the punches rather well without buckling under pressure. Their soul is very old and still maturing, leading to some strangely insightful moments and a very accepting attitude for a lot of things most people would be angry or upset about. It simply doesn't bother them in the grand scheme of things. The one caveat to this is social injustice among the species and races where Casey feels everyone should be equal, and has been known to pop off a few unprepared spells for getting riled up at hearing about or viewing things that just shouldn't still be happening in this day and age.

Their heart is very large, a caring and compassionate person whose simple joys are derived from helping others. This is especially obvious from their volunteer work in fostering animals to be rehomed and their attempts to break into the medical industry in the way that suits them best, as well as their go-getter attitude. They are very insistent on being on-call for friends should they need help or aid, and they're great at listening. Their own stresses seem insignificant in comparison and Casey does consider it a small form of stress release to help others with their own problems first. Cheerful and unrelenting, Casey is definitely the emotional center of their group of friends and revels at being able to shoulder the responsibility.

For all that Casey has struggled and worked hard to make a better life for themself, they do suffer from anxiety and depression and have yet to mention this to anyone for fear of no longer being reliable. Most cases of emotional downswings come from slow periods where they have nothing constructive to do and leads into poor thoughts of being useless, partially grown by the need to be the "man" of the family and take charge, make a difference, be the breadwinner and decision maker all in one. This has led to a blind spot concerning themself and their own well-being at times, and taking reckless or impulsive action isn't unheard of. Not that these issues aren't noticeable to those Casey is close to, they just aren't ready to admit to the weakness yet.

Casey's gender orientation is a constant journey in understanding themself. Being gender neutral and learning what that means has been a great release of burden on their shoulders, but at the same time they cannot wholly let go of how society would perceive them as one-or-the-other and still hides behind a noticeably masculine mask in public. No one is going to mistake Casey for female, anyway, and the aim is only to sit right in their own skin. What truly makes it hard to be themself outright, not just with Gabriel or at social outings where no one really ever calls you back the day after, is the mess of should- and should-not-bes that Casey grew up around. There were many things that men were supposed to be and do, and while Casey does have some interest in part of it, they abhor the idea of being construed as male thanks to something as simple as genetics when it's the person that counts. The issue is complicated and conflated in Casey's head as this lifestyle is contrary to what they were raised to feel was "right" and Casey unfortunately has a large complex about body image, presentation and self-confidence thanks to that.

Gabriel Logan is Casey's sunshine. Despite not having the sense of a dragon and knowing the two of them are meant to be together, Gabriel is everything Casey could ever want in a partner (plus even more Casey couldn't have even begun to imagine). Around Gabriel, Casey can be themself and relax because Gabriel is safety and strength and genuinely wants Casey, no matter what that all involves. Being a dragonaught is an entirely new thing to Casey and they're still adjusting to the differences in lifestyle that being a dragon-in-spirit brings when among other dragonaughts or dragons themself since it's nothing like what they learned in school or saw on television. It's like a fanciful teenager's wildest fantasies of the handsome royalty sweeping them away and making all their worries disappear — that last part isn't strictly true, but damn if Gabriel doesn't try, and Casey only loves him more for it. Their complimentary personalities and inspired devotion to each other has Casey already knowing they'll never be with anyone else as long as they live, and they're perfectly okay with that.

POWERS/ABILITIES: Being of the humanoid species, Casey grew up with the sensibilities and spellcasting powers of the earth element. This translates into some realistic thinking and a solid stance in beliefs, although not necessarily a strong conviction or any particular thing. These spells tend to revolve around reshaping the land or inspiring growth and reaction; earth magic cannot create life, but it can foster the life found around it. Many humanoids carry a piece of quartz around with them and Casey is no different, wearing a smooth piece on a gold-chained necklace for the use in light generation and as their magical catalyst.

Despite their humanoid body and genetics, Casey is also capable of using fire and air magic due to their status as a dragonaught. This ability is largely unpracticed and difficult to control but certainly exists. Fire magic is a destructive and comforting magic in equal measure and those without proper guidance in its use are easily overwhelmed, making Casey reluctant to try using it without Kyanos nearby. Air magic, on the other hand, is free spirited and difficult to control in an entirely non-destructive way and is what Casey prefers to practice using when there's time to goof around. (Also, air magic holds the possibility of learning to fly even if it will be super hard as Casey does not possess wings like avians do to help them with that. But flying.) Both of the elements are relatively new to Casey and still within the budding stages of understanding. As with all magic, the potential for greatness is always there and depends on the person wielding it and their own conviction with taking that particular skill of theirs further than the rest.

Also thanks to being a dragonaught, Casey's soul is noticeably that of a dragon still growing into its proper place. No physical markers would indicate this but just in case anyone can sense that, because who the hell knows with panfandom, amirite?

To celebrate the acknowledgment of Casey as Gabriel's dragonaught, they were gifted with a magical chainmail shirt usually reserved only for dragons themselves in human forms. Its properties include automatically adjusting to the size of the wearer, remaining a consistently comfortable temperature, and protecting the wearer from physical attacks — all traits meant to mimic a dragon's natural scaly hide. Usually only reserved for very established dragonaughts, Gabriel is just super head over heels for Casey and gave it to them immediately once the dragon was out of the bag. Because they're both cuties.

When considering nonmagical talents, there are still quite a few things Casey can do. They excel in keeping things clean and orderly, can sew and patch like a pro, can often be found fostering animals for a local shelter, and work at a convenience store pharmacy while obtaining their humanoid-pharmacological degree through a combination of night and online courses. Casey is not a very great cook and lacks the muscle one might expect of a male at their age due to intentional lack of cultivation to feel better suited in their body.
