Appearance

Standing at 5'9", Casey is a slim, unimposing adult. Black hair, blue eyes and pale skin makes for almost porcelain-fragile features and they often play that angle up with very neutral clothes. Flowing designs and easy movement are emphasized rather than anything overly defined. In much more public settings or while at work, Casey will take less care of their hair and wear things like T-shirts and jeans out of habit. Casey is male-bodied, but identifies as agender and uses they/them pronouns. Played-by is the protagonist/Hibiki Kuze of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2.

OC history

Born in a rural humanoid town, Casey was not a very popular child. They preferred their studies and small, tight-knit group of friends over any other social group or activity. Home life was complicated as Casey was raised by their mother and grandfather after their father walked out, and Casey was often told to be the man of the household and act less like a wallflower, more confident and in control. However, this never sat right with Casey and they quickly learned how to hide behind lies and half-truths and seem involved with some things that really held no interest at all. At the age of emancipation, fourteen in their town, Casey packed their bags and left for brighter pastures where they could figure out what being true to oneself really meant for someone who didn't feel comfortable no matter what role they tried to fit.

Moving to the big city where all different species lived and intermingled was culture shock to young Casey. Not only was it easier to blend in doing whatever they wanted, it was easier to make friends of all different stripes. Landing a job as a pet-walker at a boarding kennel, Casey also enrolled in the local school and tried to piece things together now with a better safety net and distance from small town thinking. It was a long road, taking nearly six years before Casey could really find and confirm who they actually were: not a boy or a girl, but themself. It was the most relieving revelation of their life; even so, Casey did not make a big deal of it with their friends or at work and continued on with a slightly-more neutral male presentation for fear of rocking the boat just after they'd found somewhere to belong.

At the age of twenty-one, now working on a humanoid-pharmacology degree in a mix of online and night courses, Casey was pretty content with life. Not only did they have themself figured out, but they had a good group of friends, steady job at the corner pharmacy and even managed to encourage the growth of their self-confidence and body image by getting out into the social circle as a more androgynous true-to-form self when the fancy struck. It was a big city, easier to move about however they wished. One of these social outings resulted in something rather fantastic, the meeting between Casey and a rather gentleman named Gabriel Logan who quite emphatically swept Casey of their feet in what seemed like a spontaneous, passionate whirlwind of interest. Casey didn't argue and soon they began to date out of incredibly mutual attraction. It wasn't until the fifth date or so that Casey invited Gabriel over and cooked for him. Even if it wasn't that great, Gabriel was ever diplomatic about it and long talks while cuddling on the couch led to a late night and the two eventually sharing a bed simply because it was too much of a hassle to get home at that time of night. Their next morning was rather surprising considering Casey woke up next to a dragon and all that.

Despite the rocky start, Casey had little problem with the fact that Gabriel was actually a dragon. No, the actual difficulty came from something as amazing and celebrity-like as a dragon wanting someone like Casey — it was like some kind of make believe story right out of a childrens' book. They both easily decided to stay together since love wasn't really something confined to what species they were. Once the secret came out, things became even more comfortable between the two and Gabriel explained to Casey how they were his dragonaught, his soulmate still in the process of reincarnation on their way to being born as a dragon to spend the rest of their lives together. Dragons often spent their lives looking for their dragonaughts no matter what species they had been born as and were unequivocally treated as an equal to their dragon mate; not equal with all dragons, as they were an incredibly haughty and egotistic race that could consider even other dragons as lesser, but at the same point of respect as a dragonaught's particular partner. It was a bare-bones explanation at best for all the intricacies of dragon culture, but Gabriel followed it up with a splendid present to commemorate finding each other in this life of Casey's: a shirt of magical, draconic chainmail meant to protect a dragon's human form in the same way their scaly hides would do in their natural bodies. It was an incredible gift and Casey took to wearing it whenever not with Gabriel personally.

Things from there moved quickly at the pace the both of them set. Casey introduced Gabriel as their boyfriend to their friends and Gabriel took Casey to his home, the entire top floor of a ridiculous high rise apartment building that turned out to be inhabited by only dragons from a particular clan. Although Casey didn't take the step to move in with Gabriel, they often found themself staying over and hanging out in the lap of luxury rather than their own apartment while still living their own life in moderation. It wasn't until a draconic cold swept through the building and the residential dragonaughts all came together to make home remedies and met Casey in person that Casey learned Gabriel was, in fact, the chief of a very large and powerful clan named Kyanos Skyheart which made Casey on the same standing with the other dragons and dragonaughts. Cue some ridiculous freaking out and a lot of cute bonding between Casey and the dragonaughts as they all kind of learned what kind of people they shared a building with. Further revelations included that Kyanos was in fact in charge of an almost-entirely draconic city further away, but resided in the high rise as it was along a traditional route for dragonet rites of passage where the young dragons could rest and learn necessary skills for their pending adulthood on the way to their final destination.

As a last shock to the system, Casey also learned that they had the capacity not only for fire magic but air as well thanks to a previous incarnation. New magic was something not many people could help with, Gabriel included, and so Casey sought out fellow dragonaughts to learn how to cope. Practice with the unfamiliar elements started.

Setting

In the common year 3157, the world is a mishmash of magic and science, spellwork and technology. Many of the conveniences common to our world remain, although possibly with different history, names or sources, the relative function of it all stays the same. Visual and audio entertainment broadcast over screens in short program bursts, or small communication devices that host a multitude of other functions, or transportation to fit a family or publicly-available cabs that can fit scores of people at once. Historically and geographically, the world is completely different; however, the state of humankind ('sentients') does always seem to retain certain qualities no matter the universe and culture can be seen to have evolved similarly to many Earths. Racial and gender inequality still exist in different measures per species and through different qualities: trolls and orcs might look down on humans, elves and dwarves for being so much smaller and without physical prowess; amphibians and avians belong to matriarchal societies whereas humanoids and draconics are patriarchal; interracial relationships are still considered an out of place minority, and sometimes meet outright hostile attitudes. There's no such thing as a perfect world and in one with even more options of difference between its people, there's no shortage of problems to find if one looks for them. Nothing too horrendously different... save for the people that inhabit the world itself.

There exist four common species of sentient beings, each associated with a major element and trait. Humanoids (humans, trolls, orcs, elves, dwarves) encompass the element of earth and the trait of multitudes; amphibians (mermaids, nymphs, selkies, kelpies) are the element of water and the trait of bounty; avians (harpies, gryphons, fairies) use the element of air and possess the trait of freedom; draconics (dragons, salamanders, kirin, demons, yokai) possess the element of fire and embody the trait of power. Being entirely different species, only the races within each species are able to mate and have children together; other races are free to have fun, but genetics just don't work like that, kids. Although harmony is a difficult thing for such varied races of people, current times have seen a shift in general culture through the concerted efforts of radical, free-thinking individuals paving the way for treaties and the easy combination of lifestyles in order to create a more peaceful tomorrow.

Humanoids are by far the most populace of the four species and are often the most prolific with their works. Most major cities in the world have a humanoid influence in their construction due to their numbers and ability to manipulate the earth with their magicks, although there do still exist older cities made entirely by non-humanoid hands that now serve as cultural landmarks open for all to observe and appreciate. Additionally, there are still many sky and sea cities in use where humanoids cannot reach that act as sanctuary for those who would remain secluded from the rapidly changing world around them. Dragons are most notorious for publicly shying away from the merging of cultures — this is a popularly misunderstood fact as most of the draconic species are capable of humanoid forms and use those in lieu of interacting with society on a disproportionate scale.

In order to actualize magic, two things are necessary: magical aptitude, and a proper catalyst for the intended element. Humanoids are tied to quartz, gold, and carnations; avians use emeralds, iron, and tulips; for amphibians, it's pearls, silver, and lotuses; and draconics synchronize with rubies, mythril and amaranth. Being in the presence of or wearing something with the correct properties allows the actualization of specific elemental magic. All races are capable of using ambient magic for smaller things and using their type of technology even without their catalysts. It's recently come into common practice for interracial groups of friends to make up friend bracelets that incorporate the catalysts of all the involved races, and some people simply wear unaligned catalysts for fashion. Practice is key to becoming strong and specific "spells" are intricate techniques that maintain cohesion despite very focused application.

There exists a phenomena in the world where certain members of a species will have innate access to elements not usually within their genetic set. Due to the draconic belief in their soulmates experiencing a karmic reincarnation cycle up until the point these elementally-unique people are reborn as dragons themselves, they are called dragonaughts in accordance with draconic spirtuality. No scientific or magical studies have been able to prove such a theory, but the fact does remain that dragons only ever find lifelong love in those who display some measure of elemental dissonance (whether it only be fire and their genetic element or up to all four at once); some argue that this is the belief influencing their decision process and not the other way around.

Beyond that, they are currently in a cycle of reincarnation as a budding dragon soul who has access to air (from a previous life) and fire (from their true end destination).
